Artists Workshop: How To Make Your Studios Safe
January 3, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Workshop hosted by the Pacific Felt Factory
Learn how to make your work space safe both from fire, and from evictions. first hour will be on fire safety: electric power tool safety, stop overloading outlets, breaker power strips, smoke/CO2 alarms, fire extinguisher use, illuminated exit signs, clear paths of exit, unlocked exits, ventilation, other ways to be safe.
I’ve invited SFFD to make a safety presentations and to distribute free smoke alarms. THEY WILL NOT BE THERE TO CLOSE DOWN ANY ILLEGAL SPACES, however, DO NOT MENTION ANY ADDRESSES OF BLDGS NOT TO CODE, OR THEY WILL BE OBLIGATED TO INVESTIGATE.
This is a safe space to learn how we can protect ourselves in these difficult times. We don’t want to open the flood gates and risk being evicted. We want to protect our creative spaces, and our artists. Even if your studio is in your kitchen (and not zoned live/work), you can upgrade your safety conditions yourself without drawing attention to any alleged illegal use.
This event is to come together as a community as we mourn our friends who perished at the Ghost Ship. This workshop is to learn how to prevent future disasters in our community. Please share and invite all artists: visual, performing, musicians, etc.
To donate funds to purchase smoke detectors, illuminated exit signs, fire extinguishers to distribute to the artists, please go to: artsandmedia.net/donate Please note in memo that donation is for Jan 3 event.
